BATH

Enjoy Two Distinct
Natural Hot Springs

Located in Aso Uchinomaki—one of Japan’s most renowned hot spring towns—our inn offers a truly special bathing experience.
While the area is famous for its abundant natural hot springs,
what sets us apart is the rare opportunity to enjoy two different natural spring sources on-site.
Relax and immerse yourself in the healing waters of both.

Commitment to Stone

Our Commitment to Stone –
The Beauty of Hexagonal Basalt

In our large communal bath and indoor bath, we use Roppōseki—hexagonal basalt stones, formed when magma rich in fine particles and volcanic glass erupts from deep underground and rapidly cools on the surface.
The result is naturally hexagonal columnar joints, commonly used in ganban-yoku (hot stone spa treatments) for their heat-retaining qualities.
Our basalt is sourced from a mountain on the China-Nepal border, at an altitude of 2,000 meters.

Benefits of Volcanic Stone Baths
When heated, the fine particles within volcanic basalt release abundant far-infrared rays. Combined with the healing effects of natural hot spring water, this synergy improves blood circulation, warms the body from deep within,
stimulates internal organs, revitalizes the skin, supports anti-aging,
and boosts the immune system, promoting overall physical well-being.

Open-Air Baths

Open-Air Bath

Embrace the Changing Seasons in Tranquility

Step from the indoor bath into our open-air hot spring and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. At our rotenburo (open-air bath), you can enjoy two distinct spring sources: One small bath features a rare, milky-white hot spring—a unique sight even in Uchinomaki Onsen—kept at a higher temperature for a deep, warming soak. The larger bath offers a gentler temperature, perfect for a long, relaxing dip. Both baths are fed directly by natural springs, allowing you to choose your preferred heat level. Feel the breeze of the seasons, gaze up at the starry sky, and enjoy the distinct designs of our men’s and women’s outdoor baths. Each visit offers a once-in-a-season bathing experience that only Irifune can provide.

Indoor Bath

Indoor Bath

Enjoy the Water Just the Way You Like It

Our indoor bath features a two-level design: The upper level offers a hotter soak, while the lower level is set at a more moderate temperature. When seated on the specially crafted far-infrared stone bench, only your legs are immersed—perfect for improving circulation and warming the body gently. Whether you prefer a quick, invigorating dip in the hot bath or a slow, relaxing soak in the milder one, the choice is yours. Designed in the spirit of a traditional yuya (Japanese bathhouse), the high ceilings and thick wooden beams create a nostalgic atmosphere. Let the flowing spring water and timeless design bring both comfort and calm.

Five Private Hot Spring Baths

Five Private Baths

Relax with Loved Ones in Peace

At Irifune, we offer five private hot spring baths (three during winter months when water temperature may be lower). Each bath features continuously flowing natural spring water, available to guests anytime, as often as you like, free of charge throughout your stay. All baths are open 24 hours a day. These private spaces allow you to soak in comfort without worrying about other guests—perfect for couples, families, or anyone seeking a peaceful moment. Though some changing areas may be compact, each bath has its own unique design and charm for you to enjoy. Please note: Our private baths operate on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved in advance. Simply check availability upon arrival.

Rotating Baths

Experience a Second Natural Spring Source

At Irifune, we are fortunate to have a second natural hot spring source, used not only for our baths but also for our showers thanks to its abundant flow. Unlike our other source, this spring features clear, colorless water with a refreshing feel. The men’s and women’s public baths alternate daily, allowing all guests to enjoy both unique bathing areas—the Dragon Bath and the Lying-Down Bath—during their stay. Take advantage of this rotation to fully enjoy the variety and healing properties of both spring sources.
